English
The English program at August London High School is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of language tools, enabling them to speak, write, and think effectively. Our curriculum aims to provide students with a rich background in literature, encouraging them to view reading as a gateway to human experience and to develop critical thinking skills for understanding and enjoying various texts. We strive to familiarize students with both classic and contemporary literature, fostering an appreciation for diverse literary styles and genres.
Our English courses are carefully structured to build skills progressively throughout a student's high school career. The program includes a range of offerings that cater to different interests and academic levels. Some of our courses include World Literature and Composition, which often integrates with our history curriculum to provide a more holistic understanding of global cultures and their literary traditions. We also offer American Literature and Composition, exploring the rich tapestry of American literary voices throughout history. For students interested in honing their creative skills, we provide a Creative Writing course that encourages self-expression and experimentation with various writing styles. Our Advanced Composition and Literary Analysis course prepares students for college-level writing and critical reading.
